This is one of the most expensive components of the computer, but it is also one of the most important since the comfort and safety of your eyes depends on it. Again, there are two major choices as to what kind of monitor you choose, flat panel or CRT. CRT monitors are the traditional bulky monitor that use tubes much like a typical TV. The only drawback with this type of monitor is that it takes up a lot of desk space, however these are great for the budget conscious consumer since flat panel monitors have jumped into the market.
Flat panel monitors have a couple of advantages: first, they save a lot of desk space and allow you to have a large screen without worrying about breaking the desk. Second, flat panel monitors use a different technology in its display that is actually easier on the eyes, especially for prolonged periods of time.
When shopping around, keep the following brand in mind: Samsung, Viewsonic, Dell, and Sony. These brands have been leading the monitor industry lately.
Cost
CRT monitors can range from $100 to $300 depending on the size and brand. Flat panel monitors can range from $250 to $700 , so there's quite a price difference.
