CD/DVD Drives and Burners
Once you determine what you'll be using your new computer for, you will be able to decide whether to buy a CD burner or DVD burner. It's difficult these days to find a CD drive that isn't a burner since they are so common now and the introduction of DVD burners has driven down the price of regular CD burners. The only difference between the two is the disc format that they can write to. CD burners can write only to blank CDs but DVD burners can write to both CDs and DVDs
How Expensive Are DVD Burners?
DVD burners have now come down in price to where you can find a decent DVD burner for under $150.
Don't I Have to Have a Bunch of Professional Equipment to Make Movies?
One more reason to get a DVD burner is to preserve family movies in the everlasting and easy to view DVD format. It is now very easy to transfer movies from your digital camcorder to computer by way of a firewire card. Where once you would need a special video card with audio/video inputs, now all you need is a digital camcorder and a firewire card along with movie making software.
Should I Buy a Movie Making Software Title?
If you think you'll have to spend a fortune on editing software, think again. Even if you decide not to buy one of the affordable movie editing software titles available, Windows XP has decent built-in movie maker software. If you plan on making more than just a few movies for fun, I would recommend buying a nice movie making software title.
Cost A CD burner will run from $30 to $100 (Average Cost: $55) and a DVD burner will be between $100 and $200(Average Cost: $150).
